There always seems to be mixed opinions for cheese or butter as the use for this covered dish - so I say both!!
Formed as a moulded leaf the base is deep grey and the lid very soft grey.
Base is 23.5cms x 14.5cms.
Black printed makers mark on the base shows Carlton Ware, Handpainted, Made in England, "Trademark", Registered Asutralian Design and impressed number 2371.
