First published in 1930 these magazines for young women were published in the first decade.
1. May 1932 - The beauty on the back of this magaine is Gwen Stallard "Miss Britain 1932" who is in fact advertising toothpaste! The contest organised by Miss Modern. A great magazine published in the UK and distributed in Australia and New Zealand. 80 pages packed full of fashion, beauty and articles which all give a fabulous insight to life in the early 1930's. You'll recognize the brands in the advertisements for Lux toilet soap, Nugget boot polish, Vita wheat, Bird's custard, Morley silk stockings, Lacey's reducing chewing gum, Yardley powder, Innoxa, Bourjois Evening in Paris and more.
The free pattern for the office frock is till inside and looks as if it hasn't been unfolded.
There is some browning on the cover and some tatty edges but the magazine is in good condition.
2. December 1936 - Published in England this was sold through Gordon and Gotch in Australia and New Zealand for ninepence. At 92 pages it is quite a volume colour cover and black and white contents. Featuring the names of sell known items from the period such as 4711, knights castile, lady jayne's wave clip, bondor stockings, an article on the tribulations of a debutante... advertising ponds cold cream, rowntrees gums and pastilles, houbigant and yardley lavender,
Packed with some fabulous fashions and styles from the 1930's along with articles and stories. Lots of advertisements and interesting insights into the way of life.
Some creases and small rips on the cover but not in the magazine itself which is in great condition for a 75 year old magazine.
3. January 1937 - edition of the collectable and rare Miss Modern magazine. A fabulous insight to life in the 1930's, packed full of fashion, beauty, articles and stories. At 96 pages it is a pretty big magazine. Printed in the UK it was distributed in Australia and New Zealand by Gordon and Gotch and sold for ninepence. You'll recognize some of the iconic names of the era such as Halex brushes, Morley stockings, Borwick's baking powder, Beecham pills, Erasmic soap, Gold Flake cigarettes, Mornay soaps, Macleans peroxide tooth paste, Yardley of Bond Street and more.
The cover is a bit tatty and is torn across the page but the body of the magazine is good.
